Warning: Dan Black’s Cigarette Pack is addictive and may cause toe tapping
Dan Black is to Brit Electronica what Ekon is to R&B-a fresh, innovative and simple mix of sounds that makes you want more. The laptop-DJ and former member of the alt-rock band, The Servant, was first put on the map with “HYPNTZ”, his catchy mash-up of Rihanna’s ubiquitous “Umbrella” and Notorious B.I.G’s “Hypnotize” and its equally nifty video.
He is as easy on the ears as he is on the eyes, which should help make him a star once his first solo album, ((un)), is realized in North America later this year.I stumbled upon one of the album’s singles Cigarette Pack .After listening to it a few times, I thought it should come with a warning label that reads: this track is highly addictive.
Contact Music called it “winsome” and “one of the album’s best tracks.” But according to BBC music guru Lou Thomas, “It lacks the bite of the better album tracks but is an intriguing blend of vampiric, charming and cheesy, like Smashing Pumpkins covering Baywatch incidental music.” To which I say, “Meh. I love it anyway.”
After a few successful singles, he has demonstrated that he is a good artist on the verge of becoming a great one. I’m patiently awaiting ((un)) and already have a favourite song, the catchy and haunting “Wonder”.
“Ever since we met we’ve never been too clear
All our insecurities turn up in all our fears
And how we’ve tried to make our problems disappear
Never searchin’ hard enough to find only more tears ”
That’s a sample form the lyrics for Better of as Two, second song for Frankmusik album “Complete me” which according to his Website is dropping out this 13th of July.
In my opinion FrankMusik has one of the most distinctive sounds of 2009, every song I’ve heard so far has that particular Frank-touch that makes it sound like the Pop of the future, even with covers from the 90′s, he gets them mixed with his synthesizer and that beautiful voice and off -to spin around anywhere in the world.
He is no stranger to spin tracks for other people, like Pet shop boys, Keane, Erasure, Lady Ga Ga but “Complete Me” is his debut album- Huge deal-The album comes with 12 tracks, including “Better Off As Two” and my favorite “When you are around”
Franmusik has been very popular with his Ep’s since 2008. I’m hoping to see him live sometime in the near future, just for the sake of indulging in 2 things I enjoy lots , Musik and Originality. Two qualities found plenty aound this guy.
Check this live Vid @ Selfridges in London.
Better Off As Two- The video
I’m not a robot, I’m just a really good voice from Wales… That would be Marina.
I never thought that a song could be written in a way that says “F u …I’m not a effing robot” I just draw them for fun …. Well Marina and the Diamonds did write one, and I have to say… She is amazing and her songs have a voice on there on.
Only released in the UK, The Ep containing this track is titled ” The Crown Jewels”. When I first listen to this track it hit me, Marina sounds like Imogen Heap, which gave me reason number 2 to like their beat.
So… Stop acting like a tough baby… smoking all those Cigarettes …. your charm does not end with a Pint of Guinness… I might not have the greatest reactions, But guess what? “I’am not a Robot”.
Nelly Furtado is bringing something new to the table…. and all ” Español” album ”Mi Plan” with “Manos al Aire” the first single dropping on the 29 of June….
♥ ” When love takes over ” Everything gets better, brighter, funnier, prettier, taking awesome to another level, 10 floors higher than before!!!Right ???
Frankie, Vanessa, Una, Mollie and Rochelle
The Saturday Cheeky’s are simply brittuiful and most of all talented…. I have to say, ever since I heard of them The Saturdays Spice up my world….
Hot, talented, hot and down to earth…. what else can fans from all over the globe want, They are all that and a bag of crisps.
They are such a twitters, yeah… one would think there is an entourage that would prevent them form getting toooo exposed, but is quite different I most say…. they are always on your face, not only on the tabloids or the Mags but on the tele tooo.
Oh, well I just can get enough of them or the catchy tunes ….
Re-launches are sometimes weird, kinda pushed, not natural, sometimes not, sometimes it goes fine, and it works just like ” Can’t get over”, ”Until I die” or “Cry for You” … all form September( UK edition), and is was done almost flawlessly. Thank you London music scene, thank you.
September is from Sweden, her Id name is Petra Marklund (born September 1984, in Stockholm) and in late 2008 hit the UK.
As you all know the Britt’s know their “pop” quite well by now, I mean… after years of flopping, flipping around with, boy-bands and one hit wonders , the UK knows a hit as soon as it gets played on Capital FM or Virgin.
September is a hit not only in the UK, but in Australia, Canada, Germany, Belgium, and of course Sweden. I read somewhere that her sound has made her into the “Kylie” of Sweden… ahhh, IDTS, peoples of sweden settled down!
The fact is that her label, totally re-launched her in the UK … I’m not sure about how did they,or what did they do, but the UK team did it, she came back all the way, sexy, succesfully, brilliantly, marvelously actually…. marvelously !
“Cry for you” has its own UK version along with a new Clip…much more posh than the Swedish first. “Can’t get over” has also been put under the UK’s pop scalpel and I actually like it better now, and new single “Until I die” á la dance UK , for sure.
September greatest hit so far is the monumental “Cry for You” released to US radio stations on the June 5, 2006, believe it or not, and it peaked at number one on the Hot Dance Airplay where it stayed for a total of three weeks. But it wasn’t until the September’s landing on Britain’s charts, that her music really hit the globe.
I found something for those “hatters” who don’t believe in her singing abilities…. yeah! aha!! that’s was effing hot about September, her voice.
”Cry for you ” Uk video version, best rmx ever!
Röyksopp released “Junior” the album a few months ago, but I guess “Happy Up here ” wasn’t as good for a first single, or at least for the masses. ” The girl and the Robot” the beauty and the beast… will be for sure… or maybe Karin Dreijer Andersson ’s voice on the track “This must be it” will do the trick, I love her voice.
Don’t get me wrong I love Royksopp and I would pay anything anytime to see them live… but really crappy vid, I mean Robyn is probably pissed, having to deal with such a lack of creativity.
On another note, Did I mention that I’m not particularly liking the clip, is there something wrong with me? or the vid is kinda* )(*&^% , aka S***t.
Ok, Ok, Now I get it…….. is the interpretation of the clip director’s idea reflected on every shot…. but still, not liking it !!!
I love the Marching band version for ” Happy up Here”… though. And also… Davide Rossi’s interpretation track of which video I don’t like…
